A Pet's Life

If you were born a pet

Right now, all over the world, kittens and puppies and rabbits are being born. You are about to be one of them. Where you're born, and who you end up with, you don't get to choose. Neither do they.

A pet is not a toy. It's a life.

They may be 10 to 20 years of your life. But to them, you are their whole life.

Before you take one home, think it through

  • When they get sick, can you afford to care for them?
  • Buying one can be cheap (adopting is better), and the joy is instant. But for years to come, everything they need depends on you.
  • Whatever happens, you look after them and keep your promise. Giving up on them hurts them for the rest of their life.
  1. 1You'll live from your first day to your last.
  2. 2You'll make choices along the way. They change how much you trust people, how close you are to your human, and your health — and when life gets hard, that changes what happens.
  3. 3Every life is drawn from situations real animals face. In the end, it's usually still people who decide.
